U.S. Debut among Hyundai WIA Machine Center Technology on Display at WESTEC, Booth #1515

July 30, 2015 By Jason Eelbode

Hyundai WIA - WestecHyundai WIA Machine America will have multiple CNC machines on display at WESTEC in booth #1515. The event will be the first time the new and improved F500 Plus vertical machining center is displayed in the U.S. In addition to vertical machining, product experts will host demonstrations of the latest advances in compact CNC turning and multi-task turning centers—the very technology Hyundai Motors relies on to build parts for the roughly 8 million cars it produces across the globe annually.

Introducing the F500 Plus – Vertical Machining Centers
This machine utilizes a high-precision, high-torque BIG PLUS® spindle in a construction that virtually eliminates thermal growth during heavy duty cutting. Thirty-position, servo-powered tool magazines make for quick and reliable tool changes. High-speed axis travel on roller linear motion guide ways reduces non-cutting time for greater productivity.

The E160A – Compact CNC Turning Center
This compact turning center packs tons of productivity in a small-footprint, affordable package. The center’s 45-degree, one-piece casting bed structure and 6” chuck provide the rigidity and strength for high-performance machining of small diameter parts. And with a travel speed of 30m/min on linear motion guide ways, the E160A gets the job done fast.

The L2100SY – Multi-Tasking Wedge Type Y-Axis CNC Turning Center
This turning center has an 8” chuck on the main spindle and a 6” chuck on the sub spindle for complex machining in a single setup. A latest-generation BMT top plate increases tool performance and rigidity by securing each tool with four screws. Cutting is reinforced by all-axis box guideway design.

About Hyundai WIA:

Since 1977, Hyundai WIA has been a core division of the Hyundai Motor Group, building the CNC turning centers, machining centers and multitasking machines the automotive manufacturer uses to build its parts. Hyundai WIA Machine America makes that same technology available to the broader manufacturing marketplace in North America. In addition to the Itasca, IL headquarters, Hyundai WIA Machine America has a West Coast Solution Center in Cypress, CA with a full showroom and training opportunities, and an East Coast Tech Center and Parts Support located in Carlstadt, NJ.

See Mencom Waterproof Connectors at Pack Expo 2015

July 28, 2015 By Jason Eelbode

Mencom Corporation Announces Waterproof Connectors for Harsh Manufacturing Environments at Pack Expo 2015
Booth S-6378 in the Lower South Hall in the Las Vegas Convention Center

Mencom Waterproof ConnectorsThere are as many terms used to describe waterproof connectors as there are reasons for needing one, such as water resistant, water repellent, and watertight.  The best way to ensure you have the proper connector for your project is to find the IP rating associated with the connector you plan to use.

IP (Ingress Protection) rating is the most common system for evaluating how “waterproof” your connector is.  IP rating is categorized by two digit numbers.  The first digit represents the protection rating against solid foreign objects such as dusts. The second digit represents the protection against the ingress of liquids.

Mencom offers a wide selection of waterproof connectors from IP44 and IP68 connectors. Typical IP ratings for waterproof connectors in the manufacturing industry are IP67 and IP65. IP67 waterproof

connectors provide complete protection against dust, and ingress of water when immersed in one meter of water for 30 minutes. IP65 waterproof connectors provide complete protection against dust, and protection of water jets from all directions.

An Inside Look at 3D Scanning with Exact Metrology

July 28, 2015 By Jason Eelbode

First application of CT scanning for metrology in America involves aluminum casting

Josh Schradin, one of the 3D Scanning specialists at Exact Metrology‘s Cincinnati facility, recently completed a CT Scanning project involving aluminum castings measuring approximately 12” x 6” x 6” and weighing 10 to 15 pounds.

The company’s new Metrology Grade GE v|tome|x 300 CT Scanner, with Nanofocus Tube (180kV/15 W) and Microfocus Tube (300kV/500W), is equipped to “look inside” aluminum to a wall thickness or total amount of material of six to seven inches, or steel to a wall thickness or total amount of material of one inch.

Exact Metrology - 3D Scanning

For this particular job, which represents the first use of CT scanning for metrology in America, the client was interested in wall thickness inspection as well as porosity and void analysis. The blue paint visible in some of the images was applied by the customer to indicate stress areas where leaking or breaking was suspected. Josh Schradin performed three stacked scans, each taking only about 30 minutes, to capture the entire casting. The result of the scans revealed the voids (legitimate holes) and highlighted the most serious problem areas in red-to-pink shadings.

Exact Metrology - 3D Scanning

In addition to offering the only method to get 3D views inside a part, another primary benefit of the Exact Metrology CT scanning is the true dimensional data provided in a non-destructive test manner, i.e. without cutting up or otherwise destroying the test object.

The workpiece (casting) was rotated 360 degrees in the x-ray beam’s path, with multiple readings from various angles being taken. Once the CT grey scale images were converted into voxel-based 3D point clouds, Schradin was able to generate a CAD-to-Part comparison for the customer.

If interested parties have a need for Internal Defect Analysis/3D Quantitative Porosity Analysis, Materials Structure Analysis or Assembly Control, CT Scanning (Industrial X-ray), Exact Metrology invites inquiries for immediate assistance.

Exact Metrology is an ISO 9001:2008 Certified Company.
