New Niagara Universal Drill Features Enhanced Multi-purpose Geometry

September 17, 2015 By Jason Eelbode

Developed with optimum performance and value in mind, the new Universal Drill from Niagara Cutter will soon hit the market. The solid-carbide drill combines a special multi-purpose geometry with advanced coating technology to provide reliable, predictable tool life and the lowest cost per hole, especially in high-volume production environments.

The Universal Drill’s rigid four-facet point geometry provides excellent centering capability, maintains an IT8/9 hole tolerance and is easy to regrind.

A polished AlCrN coating gives the drill high abrasion resistance, toughness and good chip evacuation capabilities.

Well suited for holemaking applications across all industry segments and a wide scope of workpiece materials, including steels, stainless steels and cast irons, the versatility of the Universal  Drill helps reduce required tooling inventories.   Niagara Universal Drill

Available drill diameter sizes range from 3 mm to 20 mm with increments of 0.1 mm. For efficient chip evacuation, the 5 x D and 3 x D length drills with cylindrical shanks offer the option of through-tool coolant capability. All Universal Drills are compatible with Seco shrinkfit holders, hydraulic chucks and high-precision collet chucks.

About Niagara Cutter:
Headquartered in Reynoldsville, Pa., Niagara Cutter has been a trusted provider of high-quality, high-value standard and custom cutting tools to the metalworking industry since 1954.

Arnold Laser Technology Now Available From GMTA

September 17, 2015 By Jason Eelbode

Now available from German Machine Tools of America (GMTA), the laser technology of Arnold Ravensburg, a leading supplier to the German gearmaking, automotive and off-highway powertrain markets, is renowed worldwide. New machines are being offered here by GMTA, along with full laser integration technology through application engineering in the Ann Arbor offices.

The newest additions to the Arnold laser line include the compact cell laser, used for welding smaller, round components.

Available with CO2 or solid-state lasers, this cell is suitable for mass production or smaller batches, owing to the onboard loading and powerful CNC programming capabilities of the machine.   Workpieces are loaded into the rotary carousel, either manually or by robotic automation available from GMTA. The workpiece is then lifted into position, clamped, rotated in the C-axis and laser welded.   A new workpiece is loaded during the clamp/weld phase.

GMTA - Arnold Laser Technology

Also offered by GMTA is the Arnold 2-station laser cell, which is used in a similar fashion to the compact cell, but offers a variety of geometries in the laser welding, including axial and radial seams, plus an integrated pressing function.   The processing optics move on a cantilevered arm to the individual work stations, processing radial or axial seams without changeover of the swiveling optic head.

GMTA - Arnold Laser Technology

Independent loading area gates allow simultaneous loading and unloading, while the machine is in operation. All functions on the machine are run by CNC and the machine is designed as a “single block” concept with a common base frame for all system components.
